IDC: Quest ranked better IdM vendor than Microsoft

This doesn’t really surprise me since Microsoft has had several mis-steps in this space. The project known as Gemini was extremely promising, but died on the launch pad and their password self-service solution that also had a lot of promise was quietly killed By killing these programs Microsoft left customers hanging in the wind. My biggest fear we will see yet another big announcment this year from Microsoft promising the world.
I believe Microsoft’s struggle shows just how difficult and complex delivering a solution in this space can be. IBM, CA, Oracle Identity Management solutions all require extensive amounts of custom programming during implemented in their customers’ environments. I believe this is primarily due to a lack of specialization any administration/management solution must maintain to manage disparate systems from a single console.
